Emotional Maturity, Spiritual Maturity and Our Mission

Emotional Maturity

Inherent in developing emotional maturity is the willingness to develop and maintain a momentum of self-love. This is an active, on-going and never-ending practice which is a critical component of the maturation process. Its goal is to continue the purification process of deep-seated self-hate and self-doubt. This is a process that many advanced seekers and even spiritual teachers discard at some point with disastrous results.

Emotional maturity underpinned by active self-love is demonstrated in both the willingness and ability to look to one's self in times of stress, anxiety and ambivalence. It is reflected in the self-discipline to refrain from blaming others for the people and circumstances in life that affect one. Also in the willingness when such blame is felt to take responsibility for the feeling, the choice to feel and express that feeling without doing harm to others or the self and the choice to let the feelings go. Emotional maturity is the understanding and willingness to act on the fact that I, and I alone, am responsible for my body, my emotions, my mind and my spirituality.

Spiritual Maturity

Emotional Maturity is the foundation for Spiritual maturity! In fact, with the emotional maturation process including embracing and taking responsibility for all aspects of oneself and of one's life, we draw closer to the highest expression of spiritual maturation, acknowledging what is. When one acknowledges, one goes beyond acceptance which is simply passive, and therein holds a deep respect for the divine, primal force that moves all and that underlies all movement, the universal will.

Our Mission in light of Emotional and Spiritual Maturity

When one truly accepts and acknowledges that there are no victims, and that each of us is choosing, on some level-of-consciousness, our fate, there is a profound, growing respect and acknowledgement of what is. Just as we, through self-love, grow to embrace all that we are, "dark" as well as "light," "good" as well as "evil," we embrace those opposites in others. In this light, we assist others in acknowledging what is in their lives rather than seeing ourselves and acting as "fixers" or "healers" or "spiritual teachers." Our task then as we hold sacred the self-determination of each individual is first and foremost to live a life radiating our own self-acceptance and our unconditional acceptance of others just as they are. We are then holding others in the light of self-determination until they can hold this sacred picture for themselves.

In this process when we experience discomfort with another's choices, we are willing in our own emotional maturation process to sit in our discomfort, to look within to the obstacle to loving another as they are rather than in trying to change them. In this way, emotional and spiritual maturity walk hand-in-hand as one movement of surrender to and acknowledgement of the universal will.
